Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Corkey Fornof, Bond Movie Stunt Pilot, at SWF Convention

I'm not remembering correctly.  Is this the group of Naval Pilots - that were enlisted men?  They were given a commission - but, later reverted back to enlisted status. (?)

I remember flying with one when I was an enlisted aircrewman in VU-5 ('52-'54)  Ironaically, his last name was similar  to - or the same as mine. (?)  He and his crew were killed - when for some reason - they got off center - on a GCA approach into Itazuki, AFB, Japan.  I was supposed to be on that crew - but, got kicked off - for not being a '4.0' sailor.

There is a Jig Dog from VU-5 - on the ramp at the Penscola naval Air Museum.  Someday, I'm going up there - and climb back up into it - one last time.  Bob McDonagh www.navlairestates.com

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Corkey Fornof, Bond Movie Stunt Pilot, at SWF Convention

New member here. Here's an aviation event you might enjoy. The Silver Wings Fraternity holds its Annual Convention/Reunion from Oct. 14-15, 2011 in Enterprise, AL (KEDN). Corkey Fornof is the Banquet speaker and will show clips of his aerial exploits while describing his fascinating career. The James Bond thrillers MoonRaker and Octopussy are just two of the movies he has flown in. Corkey is currently the Director of Flight Operations for LoPresti Aviation. He loves sharing the Fury with other pilots, and the plane will be on limited public display during the Convention, and scholarship fund-raising rides are scheduled to be raffled off. Pilots and others with an interest in aviation are invited to visit www.silverwings.org and learn more about this exciting and fun event.

Silver Wings Fraternity is a fraternal and charitable not-for-profit founded in 1958 by aviation pioneers. Members are pilots and others with a genuine interest in aviation who provide educational opportunities in aviation to young people and who seek fellowship and camaraderie with aviators worldwide. Visit their clubhouse at the annual Sun n' Fun Fly–In in Lakeland, Florida. Visit www.silverwings.org for more info.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Mi-8 Rotary Engine

Hi Alex,

There is nothing wrong with the statement made;
"compare our new 4 stroke 250 cc Rotary Piston engine with an ordinary generator currently on the market. Both have the same 10 kW output".

It is COMPARING the two generators in the picture, the Mi-8 (20-30HP)engine driving a 10KW alternator weighing 46kg and a 4 cylinder 30 HP engine also driving a 10KW alternator but weighing 231kg.

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Mi-8 Rotary Engine

http://www.maengtech.com/technical.html

Read it again.
The home page reference to 10kw is the electrical output of the engine being
used as a power generator... Not the power output in hp of the engine.
There heaviest engine weights under 50 pounds and puts out 100/110 hp
(claimed)

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Mi-8 Rotary Engine

Hi Gary,

Some answers to your questions;

The engine on the site and in the videos is a "PROOF OF CONCEPT" engine and is not fitted with an oil system, starter or alternator and this is the reason for the short run times and engine noise, which will be eliminated in the production engines.

OIL; the production engines will be dry sump with an external oil tank with an engine driven pump.

WEAR POINTS; Has less wear points than a conventional 4 cylinder engine of the same power. It only has a total of 16 parts.

TBO and FUEL; TBO is expected to be 700+ hours. This is a multi-fuel engine but the aviation version will be diesel.

MUFFLER; The cylinder things below the engine are mufflers and very efficient but a more conventional system will be used on production engines.

If ytou have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Regards
Graeme

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Please vote for YAA

Sport Pilot Friends, my flight school Chesapeake Sport Pilot has been
involved with the Youth Aviation Adventure program.
http://youthaviationadventure.org/ for close to three years now. This
excellent national program teaches boy scouts and girl scouts about
aviation while putting them through the requirements for their aviation
badges/patches. YAA has applied for a major grant that will help our
flight school and other YAA squadrons to fund these great
events. Several other organizations have also applied for the grant and
voting is being held right now to see who gets the grant.

I ask that you take a minute to vote for YAA at:

http://www.lightspeedaviationfoundation.org/content.cfm/Finalists/Your-Vote-Counts

You do not need to be a pilot to vote so be sure to ask your friends and
family to vote as well.

Thank you for your help.

Helen

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Aircraft Maintenance Conference Call

Hello fellow aviators,

I wanted to let everyone know that there will be a conference call on owner assisted aircraft maintenance at the end of September. You can call and just listen in, or you can ask questions to the expert. The expert on the call will be Dan MacDonald, a 30 year aircraft mechanic who is the author of the book titled, " Owner Assisted Aircraft Maintenance.". He has spoken at Oshkosh and at events all across the country. The call is being sponsored by PilotsLeague.com. Go to the site and join and details of the call ill be posted under the resources page as soon as they are available. This will be the first of many calls that will be free to PilotsLeague members. It's also free to join the site.

Hope to speak to everyone on the call!
