Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group thefts

I got this from a friend. Be careful and guard your aircraft.

*************************************************************

Authorities are investigating the apparently well-planned theft of avionics from all 23 resident aircraft at Jerry Sumners Sr. Aurora Municipal Airport in Aurora, Mo., last Wednesday. According to KY3 News, thieves broke into every hangar at the airport and then removed the GPS, radios and transponders from every aircraft. The loss is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. One of the aircraft owners, Toby Sumners, told the TV station the theft had the hallmarks of a carefully thought-out crime. "This is definitely a planned out, my opinion, it's definitely a planned out thing because like I said, it's not equipment that you use in your cars, not equipment that you use in your house, so what other purpose would there need to be unless there was a high demand for it on the other side of the market," he said. Three weeks ago the engine was stolen from a Piper Archer parked at the nearby Flying Bar H Airport but it's not known if the cases are related.

Hi Rich,

I assume you are using your HT in the Skycatcher.  It has the loudest cabin noise level of any GA plane. My Bose ANR didn't quiet enough, so I got a Lightspeed set --  works much better. But I am still concerned that my transmissions on the com are dominanted by background noise when I'm climbing at full power.  It sure sounds bad on the sidetone.

At Sporty's you can probably find a headset adapter and PTT for your HT.

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Using Amateur Radio In Flight

I took a hand held HAM radio up last year in my coupe with a friend who is a HAM fanatic. My plane isn't real quiet but is enclosed when you close the windows.  I have Lightspeed headsets into a Flightcom intercom.  We reached out 75 miles with the handheld but blew my fuses.  So check to see what your draw is.  If I remember correct, we reduced the output and it did fine.  Let me think about how I connected it but think it is was a simple connection into my existing intercom.

We were going to look into another antennae connection to a VHF antennae and make it the correct length but haven't done that yet.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Using Amateur Radio In Flight

I would like to use an amateur radio handi-talkie while in flight. the
ambient noise in the cockpit currently makes this impossible. anyone know
of a way to interface an amateur radio handheld radio to an aviation
headset?
