IMPORTANT NOTICE:
The deadline to oppose E15 fuel is less than 10 days away.

On April 21st, 2009, ethanol promoters ACE and Progress Energy submitted a formal waiver application to the EPA, to obtain approval to increase E10 to E15.  However, since the 1970's, 10% has always been the maximum amount of ethanol allowed in gasoline.

Not a single conventional engine manufacturer (auto, marine, motorcycles, lawn and gas-powered equipment, etc.) approve of use of gas that contains more than 10% ethanol.

Those who unknowingly purchased improperly blended E10 gas, contaminated with excess ethanol and/or water, are already aware of the damage and expense it can cause.

We hoped the major engine manufacturers would formally object to the increase, but most have remained quiet knowing the details of their engine warranties rightly protect them from covering the cost of damage when E15, "an unapproved gas type", is used.
Both NMMA (marine) and OPEI (power equipment) have voiced their concerns, but this small subset may not be enough to stop approval of E15.

The ethanol industry embarked on a massive advertising campaign, which resulted in submission of over 5000 signatures to the EPA in support of E15. Unfortunately most consumers, although strongly opposed to E15, have not formally contacted the EPA to voice their opinions.

We strongly urge you to voice your opinion to stop E15 from replacing conventional gas.

To make it easier for you to respond to the EPA we have prepared a pre-formatted form which will be forwarded by email to the EPA.

Without getting into all the controversial debates on the pros and cons of ethanol, these 2 non-debatable points are enough reasons to oppose E15.

1. Not a single conventional engine manufacturer currently approves of gas that contains over 10% ethanol.
2. E15 gasoline will invalidate your current engine warranties for fuel system repairs.

The renewable fuel standards and ethanol quotas enacted by the federal government over the past decade were intended for E85, not E10.   E85 is beneficial (85% ethanol used only in specially designed flex fuel vehicles) as a transitional alternative fuel to help reduce our dependence on foreign oil imports.

The E85 plan (supported by government grants, tax credits and subsidies) failed in the U.S.
Over 40 ethanol plants have filed for bankruptcy protection in recent years.  Despite most states rapidly switching over to E10, our oil consumption continues to increase.

It is obvious that the waiver submitted for a 5% increase is a last ditch effort by the ethanol producers to push ethanol any way they can, without any consideration for the expense and damage it will cause your typical consumer and conventional engine owner.

Let the EPA know that you do not want E15, a fuel type not approved by your engine's manufacturer.
Encourage your local legislators to ensure availability of non-ethanol fuel for those engines not designed for gasahol.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions (678) 935-1998.

We urge you to continue checking and testing gas at the pump. Reports we receive for contaminated E10 gas continue to rise in several states, for both high ethanol content and water contamination.
Only 10 days left to stop E15 increase. Send opposition to EPA now.
