RE: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group WSC Weight and Balance
Gary,
Trikes have a single pivoting connection to the wing.
This makes the trike carriage very similar to a pendulum.
So the CG on the Wing is always the same (some few wings can have the CG changed in flight to adjust the trim speed, Most trike wings can have the CG adjusted while on the ground, within a very narrow range, again, to adjust the trim speed.
The wing manufacture specifies the limits within which the wing CG can be adjusted.
The adjustment is performed by moving the hangblock forward or back within the manufacture specified range.
How the trike carriage hangs (nose up-nose down) is the criteria we have been discussing and the trike carriage hang angle is not affected by how the CG of the wing is adjusted.
The carriage must hang slightly nose up, (with the pilot in the front seat) so it will land on the mains rather than on the nose wheel.
The worst case scenario for the trike carriage hang angle is: pilot in front seat, no fuel no passenger, no luggage.
