So, why not have your friend just fly the airplane back and NOT log the time?
Unless I've been doing it wrong all these years (and that IS a distinct possiblility) you're only required to log operations that are needed to show that you are legal to fly the airplane. Minimum # of landings in the previous number of days. hours of dual taken,... etc.
Recency of experience and endorsements, sure. But I don't log every single flight.

Come to think of it, there's probably a few operations that I left out of the logbook in order the protect my 5th amendment rights ;)

just kidding, of course...
