I think it was Gopher that was my first experience with the "web". You had to pick a
university's computer lab then log in a via 300 baud modem as an anonymous user then it was
pretty much like Google, except that your query had to be specifically formatted then you
came back the next day to get your reply.... You thought carefully about your search term
having to wait 24 hours for the reply...
