circling pattern would obviously lift/dip a wing from time to time to look
for traffic from their blind side or to verify their distance from the
touchdown point. A circling approach as I was taught and flown it is more
a rounded off figure made of of straight lines and turns rather than a
perfect arc on the ground. My experience has been at an untowered field
with jets and twins using it as well as singles and gliders. We still
want a straight segment to line up and adjust for wind drift on final.
Circling, square, straight in, whatever. I use what fits the situation
and can do so with safety and consideration for others in each.
