Im with Helen and other about flying a STANDERD pattern. The base leg is crucial for traffic avoidance and any altitude correction before turning final.The standerd pattern has been around for ever. Wouldnt it be nice if we could get everyone to USE IT !!  ---   Agreed. Rember the author is talking about flying on an aircraft carrier which is essentially a towered field with all professional pilots flying all flying by the same rules. This just doesn't work at a non-towered field with amatures where you have to see the person to not crash into her. > > > > > > > >
