According to Dean when I took Rotax school, you can make it for about a half hour without coolant without the engine stopping however you will need a top overhaul when you are done. We unfortunately did have an incident with a student and a radiator leak where we tested this out and found it to be true.

Bill,
I was under the impression that the ROTAX could fly along at reduced power after a coolant loss without damage, using the air and oil cooling which would still be in place.
Is that not correct? Or did this pilot simply not reduce power enough, hence the damage?
