You only have to go to a 16 hour course, if you want to perform your own annual condition inspections. Yoyu could legally do all your maintenance/repairs with no school. You can ignore Rotax too, if you were experimental.
The bad news: Yes, it will probably affect resale value (not a lot of comps on the market to prove this yet), and your insurance premiums would probably go up.
