Now, I have a question: Does anyone out there know an LSA instructor with an aircraft in Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, MI area? I am in need of a BFR. Last instructor I knew who had any time has moved away.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: A starting point
Alan, it's never too late to start. I didn't start flying until age 40 (mid-life crisis), and now have been flying for over 26 years. I started flying R/C models and it progressed to ordering a Kolb Firestar kit in 1986. I had never built anything before, except airplane models, so it was a challenge. Needless to say, that Firestar kit has been flying all this time. Five years ago I bought a Kolb Kolbra. I'm the guy that produced the "Rushford fly-in" video. I went and got my Sport license to fly it and it has been a dream come true. I absolutely love flying especially when I can share it with friends and family. My advice is to pursue your dream and you will never regret it.

Hello Alan,
Congratulations on not giving up on a life-long dream to fly. I became interested in LSAs after flying standard certfied aircraft for many years. The new designs I was seeing were a breath of fresh air and didn't disappoint performance wise as well. The retro movement is like-wise just as cool.
My best advice for you would be to find all of the LSA flight schools in the area (S. CA should have a lot) and fly with all of them by taking Intro or Discovery Flights. Unfortunately you might not be able to find the exact aircraft you want to train in but they are all applicable for the most part. Don't forget to take a logbook (available online) and ask each instructor log your flight, this is valuable time. This will be a great way to find the instructor that fits you best because you will be spending a lot of time with him or her.
Best of luck to you in your Sport Pilot, flying has been very rewarding to me personally.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Rushford Fly-in
It was a wonderful flight to Rushford with lots of scenery in the hills and bluffs of southern Minnesota. My wife Laurie took video of the flight and we both enjoyed the breakfast served here. We also enjoyed the fun we had with friends and the joking around that we do with each other. This is one of best fly-in's we've attended. The people here were very hospitable and entertaining. I also liked the operations area and the professionalism in conducting the fly-in. Hats off to them!
