Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Anybody know anything about Opti-2 oil??

Using Opti-2 at 100:1 is really not any different than running Pennzoil at 50:1.  It is much more concentrated (thicker, if you will) than the standard 50:1 oils, but dilutes just fine in the fuel. It's not a magic formula that allows you to run it at higher ratios.  Also, you will not gain anything by running it at lower ratios.

I'm not selling anything and I don't care if you go with a different oil. Pennzoil Air-Cooled always worked well for me, but so does Opti-2 and after using it for hundreds of hours on a 503 and 582, I think it works pretty good.  Several friends have been using it for years, also.

Like I said, it CANNOT be used in oil-injection since it is formulated to be mixed at 100:1.  If you pre-mix, you are fine.  Other than keeping the engine relatively clean and mixing well with oxygenated fuels, the biggest advantage is that you carry less on X-countries.

Some people sweat the high ratio

I would not put Amsoil in any thing, I have tried it in three engines and all of them up in about one thousand miles. One only had 24,000miles on it it threw a rod and busted a piston. Never again, its no dam good.

Are you saying that you would not recommend using, say, Amsoil at 100:1, if the mfg'r. called out something else at 50:1?  What oil do you use, and at what ratio?

Oils come and go, but what will never change is the oil-to-gas ratio as proscribed by the engine manufacturer.  As long as the oil type is what is recommended, and the oil ratio is what is recommended, you should be free to try what you like.  I've tried a wide variety of oils, but they all meet the minimum requirements and oil ratio per the mfg.  I've not been able to detect much of difference between them, so I tend to look for the best price.

He swears by it, and uses it in his chain saws, blowers, and weedeaters.  It is also recommended for use in snowmobiles, outboards, and personal watercraft.

I was just wondering if anyone here had heard of it, and whether anyone here was using it.  I realize that our aircraft engines are a bit of a different breed, but I am curious just the same.  I currently use Castrol RS TTS, per my engine mfgr's recommendation, but it's getting hard to find.  At 1.2 oz. per gallon, I could reduce my oil costs considerably.  I know there are many options available, but was interested in feedback regarding the Opti-2.

I would appreciate comments, positive or negative, especially those of the constructive variety.

Well.... sounds like a dodgy operation to me,

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: FAA wavers

Hi Mark, nice hearing from you. Thanks for your support of OM over the years and the help with the de-icing fluid.

OM (Operation Migration) took 4 Canadian registered aircraft and disguised them to look like "fat" UL's registering them in the fall of 2007 as ELSA...taking advantage of the one time conversion. All of the pilots became Sport Pilots and do not have higher ratings.

MESO,

If the OM is Operation Migration, they operate Canadian planes and not United States ELSA's to my knowledge.  FLying Canadian registered airplanes isn't against the law so you don't have to fix that which may be one reason they are not returning your comments unless I misunderstood your point.  I didn't know what a NPO stood for so wasn't sure.

Hello
The response to a issue of the legality is often in the form of the question and how they got to that point
The planes may not be hired but the pilots can You hire a mechanic and his tools come free It may have started out as a freebie for a friend and the return as the use increased was fuel then paying someone to fly the planes then  to cost of maintenance
If the FDSO thinks its a worthwhile proposal and the questions asked are framed for the desired outcome it goes through
Ask if you can check powerlines for a utility and the answer will be NO!
Ask if you can monitor weed infestations in a reserve and the chances are good for ok

Seems to me you need to find your answers from the NPO that is doing it. Are you looking to see if they are legal doing what they do so you can do it also? Or are you complaining about their operations itself? At any rate your answer rests with the regulations and the FSDO interpretations at the location it is being done, not with the NPO and whatever they are doing. If they are telling their pilots to lie, I wouldn't be excited about taking lessons with them, especially since you have made it public information now.

I have tried to contact them but they will not respond, hence my reason for seeking out other avenues of info on how to do this legally.

Is a 501C3 allowed to own a fleet of ELSA aircraft and pay for all the expenses if flown by volunteer pilots?

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Anybody know anything about Opti-2 oil??

Sorry you did not have good results. Did you get an analysis after the failure to see if the oil was at fault? The reason I ask is that I have used it in extended drain interval on several cars and have put big miles on them all. I have also used their 2 cycle in boat and yard machine applications with good results (I did not mix 100:1 in the boat – I used it much closer to manufacturer numbers).

Disclosure I was a dealer for a while but only for my own use. I have since dropped the dealership and buy from someone else and now also use other synthetics when economics dictate. Just curious if they stood behind the failure if you had the oil checked.
