of a medical. You can look him up if the FAA database and see if he
has a commercial pilot certificate. If he does, there is a good chance
that he is a subpart H instructor and your instruction will count, even
if he doesn't currently have a medical. The surefire way to check is to
just ask him if he is a subpart H or subpart K instructor. You keep
subpart H status regardless of whether or not you have a current medical.
Remember, even if he is subpart K, the PPL only requires 20 hours of
subpart H dual. You'll need a reasonable amount of that anyway to knock
out the night and hood work and possibly some more xcountry so its not
quite as bad as it initially sounds.
