Not to disagree but "low cost" is defined by the market ... not what
we want it to be. My way of thinking says that an aircraft that will
cruise at 140 mph and can be scratch built for less than 18K is indeed
low cost flying. There was at least one of those in the photo I
linked.
Ultralights are not Sport Planes ... I've flown both and each has its
own rewards. Former "fat ultralights" had the option of being N
numbered and sportified. If they neglected to take advantage of that
program I don't see how anyone is to blame but the owner. I know
because several of us took advantage of that.
I too would like to see lower prices on toys but the price of a Harley
has gone up along with the price of food and fuel. It is what it is.
If you can bring an ultralight plane to the market for 5K or a Sport
Plane for 10K, have at it. I believe if it could be done ... someone
else would have beaten you to it by now. Live in reality.
