They could find aircraft grease under my fingernails :).
Before any profiling there is another item that is very underused.
Intelligent intelligence.
Like when a father comes into an embassy of the US and warns the embassy staff that his son might have gotten mixed up with extremists ... perhaps the "intelligent" thing to do would be to not put that son without proper checks on a plane bound to the US is short future. Now that would be "intelligent" and it won't cost billions of dollars either.
