Take a look and fly a Luscomb 8A  they are as much fun to fly as any airplane I have ever flown and you can buy one for less than 20K.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Flight Design CTLS Free-stick Stability

Hello Gary,

I'm retired, so I have lots of time to pursue my many hobbies. Thirteen years ago my wife and I moved to our residential airpark so flying is obviously one of our passions. As I grow older, I recognize that someday I might not be able to be able to pass my medical, although I might still be fit to fly safely. That is what spurs my interest in S-LSAs.

I am disappointed in the high prices, in part due to glass cockpits and ballistic parachutes. But then I guess the prices are not out of line considering prices of new GA airplanes in general.

Hello Group,

I am checking out possible S-LSAs for future purchase. The Flight Design CTLS interests me. If there are any instructors, owners, or renters of said model or other Flight Design models in the group, I'd like to hear from you.

I've not flown one yet, but am hooking up with some owners to do so. In the meantime, maybe some of you who fly them can answer my concerns about stability. I've heard from some high-time pilots who fly them that hands-off stability is marginal (as compared,to,say, a Bonanza).

Questions:
1) Phugoid: How long and how many cycles?
2) Free stick stability: In calm air how long can you fly without a stick or rudder input?
3) Free stick stability: In calm air can you maintain straight flight with occasional mild rudder inputs?
4) How is the ride in light to moderate turbulence? (re wing loading 12 lbs/sq ft)

If flying in, it has got to be one of the official port of entry airports. Must land and stay within secure area until they scan your behind and the entire airplane.

If anyone can answer your question it might be Kathy Lubitz president of the UPAC (Ultralight Pilots Assn of Canada). 519-684-7628

I believe it is (or was possible) to fly sport pilot in Canada provided you have a 3rd class medical and pay a fairly steep fee for a short term permit, and apply well in advance. But ask Kathy.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Improvements and additions to the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum for aviation,space,and history enthusiasts.



A few weeks ago I asked for some input on music for a video about the aircraft and missiles on display at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum. Here is the finished product: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYXfW5T4oc8  .

The video shows all the aircraft and missile systems we have at the museum on display as they were in active service and as they are today on display. Improvements are being made daily to the aircraft and displays.

 I know some people recommended music from the movie "Top Gun" but the copyright regulations and fees were a hassle so I went with an open source Wagner Opera "epic". Music for the aircraft museum video is provided by the United States Marine Corps Band.

Meanwhile, we are developing and expanding our space exhibit at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum. We have just added a display for the 42nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Jason,
The first thing to do is to identify your target audience. Is it the general public? Is it family groups? Is it aspiring pilots? Is it t to attract benefaIs it a combination?
Think about that audience and where they will be most easily contacted. PR and advertising is about communication. Figure out who you want to communicate with, what you want to say to them. Also listen to what potential attendees want to shape your event to fit the customers needs and desires.
Pr is an ongoing process. If your event repeats yearly you should be laying the groundwork for next years event right now. Think of angles for local TV, Radio and Print media of all kinds. Generate print, photo and video information to tell your story to media and sell it to them.

Don't forget local signage preceding the event and on the days of the event. Lead people in from all directions. Consider billboards.
Look for tie ins with local celebrities and other events. Look for named sponsors who can get involved and share the publicity. Think of ways to make it a bigger and more regional event. Look for ways to bring in big name performers, commercial entities etc.

Perhaps the first thing to examine is the reason or reasons for having the event in the first place. Is it a celebration for the organization, a "show what we are" for the public, a recruitment drive, a donor search, a treasury filler or a combination?

In addition to the old guard media, consider using the social media before and even during the event. Facebook, twitter etc. should be a part of your effort as well as posters and fliers, signs etc., even aerial signs, searchlights and fireworks.

Most people say they end up not folding the wings. It is harder than the KOLB people will tell you. The easiest option I have ever seen is the removable wing on the (expensive) RV-12. See the Youtube video.
Don't blame you for trying. My RANS S6-ES has folding wings, but I would quit flying eventually if I had to do that every flight.

Also... don't forget your local (and even not so local) EAA chapters. They usually have newsletters and event calendars you can tap into.

Also... contact flying clubs. Ours (Skyraider Aviation - www.skyraideraviation.com) is always looking for someplace to fly. We were at the grand opening of PWAM's new hangar a few months back.

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group How best to advertise an aviation related event.



My tactics:

1.  Hit all of the newsgroups and e-lists
2.  Send out lots of press releases including those to aviation pubs that need to go out many months in advance
3.  Hang flyers at all of the airports within 10nm.  You can enlist pilot volunteers at these airport to hang them and e-mail out a pdf.
4.  Run a Wing seminar at the event so the FAA will advertise for you.
5.  Give pilots a good reason to be there, including but not limited to, food.
