Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Interested in "Sport License" Signoffs?



If memory serves me correctly there was a limit on distance in the failed Recreational Pilot license program, but I could be wrong on that.  I don't even know if that one exists anymore, but it was doomed to fail from the beginning with lots of restrictions and almost the same training required as a Private Pilot.

There is no distance limitation in Sport – other than limitations on International recognition.
 
The signoffs available are for flying in controlled airspace. There is no increase in weight except for floatplane.
 
 
The Bahamas are an exception.

Can anyone tell me about further sign-offs to the sport license. Increase in plane wieght? Increases in distance and so on? Do these exist or is this just wishful thinking?

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: aircraft

I'm not sure if it will work with a Joystick, but there is a gust lock that hooks under the rudder pedals then over a yoke. It locks the ailerons and elevator together. I was looking at using a cargo strap and a cross bar to do the same thing. The cross bar to go under the rudder pedals and cinch the stick in full forward position. I've been stored in a hangar so my urgency to create this hasn't been high on my list.

Thanks Alex, I did not realize you could photocopy a log book and it then the photocopies would still remain valid. Good to know! Still torn between a private license and this new sport license. Some parts just don't make much sense. Seems the sport planes are expensive and the license is not. But a private license is expensive and the used market planes that are heavier the sport planes are not.

Dosn't help you now....but I and others recommend periodically ..with
all endorsements...
Photocopying the logbook and keeping the copy in safe deposit box or
some location other than your home.

I use the gust lock on my PiperSport. It is well made, lightweight, and effective. The panel on my PiperSport is quite sturdy, so it works. I think it is well designed. I had been using the seat belt method, but after having seen my plane strain against the ropes due to the elevator position, I purchased this lock. It is quickly attached/detached.

Now, it might be possible to go back to the instructor(s) who made the endorsements, and ask for a replacement endorsement. Instructors are required to keep records of all endorsements they make for 3 years (14 CFR 61.189 and 61.423).

The two main sign offs IMO...

Every sport pilot MUST have either a endorsement to fly aircraft with
max cruise speed (Vh) less than 87knots or for more than 87knots ....
Or both.

if you want to fly into class D C or B air space you need an endorsement
for that.

You are required to carry in the plane with you the log with these
endorsements "or other evidence" that you have them. AOPA lawer I spoke
to said if don't want to carry logbook with the endorsements with you
your license plus photocopies of endorsements covers you.

By the way: Remember the recent ost here Richard who lost his logbook?
Replacing those endorsements if you lost your logbook could be a major
has sell and even more important than being able to document than you
have logged 300 hours in the last 4 years.
In short...another reason to mAke. Copy of your log.
