If memory serves me correctly there was a limit on distance in the failed Recreational Pilot license program, but I could be wrong on that. I don't even know if that one exists anymore, but it was doomed to fail from the beginning with lots of restrictions and almost the same training required as a Private Pilot.

There is no distance limitation in Sport – other than limitations on International recognition.The signoffs available are for flying in controlled airspace.
