That is the reason why I sold my plane and got into Ultralight aviation 35 years ago.. I met several so called A&P mechanics with a shinny tool box full of Snap on tools and not a lick of sence up stairs.. You can't teach someone to be a mechanic,,either he has the talent for it or he does not. You can teach a Mechanic to be a better mechanic . Demanding job protection from the FAA and forcing me to pay top dollar for a third class mechanic with a condecending attitude just sucks..that type of mentality killed the General Aviation world . I remember a dozen thugs protected by the FAA standing in line with their hands out and a Student pilot at the starting line counting his money,, hoping there will be enough to make it to the last person.. There is nothing magic about Alternators on aircraft,,infact, they are a "Johnny come lately" item in aviation.. And I'd be willing to bet that not many so called FAA approved mechanics could take one apart and completely rebuild the thing without someone holding his hand. Some things in the Aviation world are rediculasly over protected,,,and others that should be Highly protected,,are not at all. Just follow the money and you will see the faults.. Sorry for my nasty disposition,, but it was put there by FAA protected Scammers.. LSA was supposed to help do away with the old system,,but it did not. All it did was copy what did not work before and place younger Thugs in the money line. --- On Mon, 3/21/11, Bill Holmes <billholmes@born-2-fly.com> wrote:
