Hello sports fans, Pipistrel have just set off on another trip around the world.
The first trip around the world in 2007 was a huge success and today they leave to travel around the world westbound including flying over the top of Mount Everest, going to Antarctica.
All the information can be found on the website which is listed above and with the advancement in technology you can now follow their trip using spider tracks for daily updates. They are also researching the amount of black carbon (soot) which is in the air and it's interesting to see the interactive map to find out the areas of highest pollution.
The first day covered just over 2000 km (1103 nautical miles)in 8.5 hours flying from the Slovenian capital to Morocco in Africa non-stop without landing.
The aircraft is based on a production Virus SW currently sold in the USA as either experimental or LSA with the addition of long-range fuel tanks and the 914 turbocharged engine which will be required later in the flight for flying over the top of Mount Everest.
I would encourage everybody to join in this adventure and follow the pilot through his website which is updated daily. I believe tomorrow or the day after he will be flying from Africa to South America crossing the Atlantic for the first time.
