Guess it depends on where the funding for the runway, taxiways and other facilities come from. Since, here in the US, we pay for federal funding of those facilities with our taxes, I’m not understanding why I should have to pay more for the privilege of using them.

Personally, I think you are being really shortsighted.
In Australia we pay landing fees at every airport, it is a fact of life and it is something we cannot get around. If you boycott using the airport you are offering the owners a perfect opportunity to present a case for saying the airport is not viable, it brings in no income and they will probably get approval in a few years with reduced usage to shut it down and turn it into housing or commercial buildings, then you lose. It happens in Australia and it will also happen in the US.
Just accept this increased cost of aviation and move on....
