Because they are already paying hangar/tie down rent.
Folks, thankfully these kinds of airports are rare. Let's all remember and patronize the excellent airports that welcome us every time we fly in.
My favorites, are the airports you visit on a multi-day long cross country, who don't charge over night fees, and give you the keys to the airport car so you can get to your hotel and back, just for putting some gas in it when you're done. I remember one time (Beatrice NE), they even gave me a real nice set of aluminium wheel chocks, just for getting gas while I was there.
These smaller airports (often county or town owned) get it, and look at the bigger picture. What they lost in tie down fees, they more than made up for, as the traveler patronizes the restaurants and hotels in the town they're in.
