RE: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: North Bend Regional Airport (OTH) i...

Two years ago, I flew a Cherokee 180 from Wichita to Houston, got diverted to Sugarland International.

They had a "kind" of a landing fee.  It was more of a overnight fee. . . .maybe 10 dollars a night? (Can't remember the exact).  If you purchased enough gas (maybe 10 gallons?) they waved that fee. I think I remember purchasing about 25 gallons of Gas, and they waved my 3 night stay over.

I did notice one thing.  . . I remembered seeing very few airplanes at that airport, and it was a rather large airport for the most part, with a controller.

Maybe if they would change their tactics, they would be busier?

Great to hear from ya!

Well, at Santa Monica, if you don't pay (at the office upon landing), they'll send you a bill. Yes, aircraft based there are exempt. These are landing fees, and not "overnight tiedown fees".

Yes, its quite common for airports to charge a tie down fee (often waived or discounted with a fuel purchase, and usually just for overnighters), but this landing fee thing is just another way to nickle/dime people to death. The businesses and restaurants at those airports should be the ones screaming, since it could mean less transient business for them (after all, many of us fly to some place, for the sole purpose of visiting the airport's restaurants).
