Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Sport pilot getting Private Pilot license, interesting issues?

I may be wrong but, as I interpret the regs.....you need a third class medical to take private pilot checkride....and if you ever fail (or are denied 3rd class medical for any reason) you are done legally piloting, even as sport pilot. I think Helen Woods can clarify the regs about this....

After 4 years and 400+ hours of happy sport piloting, really the only limitation of SP license that is of any significance to me is that I can't ever fly my wife plus one (or two) others ..... No four seater rental or purchase, even if I got lots of dual time checkout in, say, a Skyhawk.

So flirting with going for PPL at some point.d

The only obvious requirements AFAIK beyond what I (and I presume you) have met as an experienced sport pilot are taking the PP knowledge exam, doing a night cross country flight WITH a CFI , some minimal instrument flying practice, and showing up for a checkride and Q&A session with a DPE.

So curious what you run into as issues..... as frankly I bet it's only a handful of pilots that make that transition (compared to the many private pilots that decide to fly an LSA or LSA like aircraft.

For example.... You would be showing up for a private pilot checkride with a DPE having no student license. Would that seem odd or unacceptable to the DPE?

And you would be able to fly all your day cross country PPL requirements in your LSA without any CFI signing you off to solo. ... Might seem odd to to the CFI?

Curious if and when your CFI has (or will) sign you off to solo the Skyhawk?

And, if you tell a DPE you only intend to fly under sport pilot limitations (as any private pilot is permited  to do without a current medical) could you show up for your checkride without a current medical?
