I have flown in an avii with the viking -the engine is quiet and it sure looks fantastic!  There are a few videos on youtube also.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group RE: So much for Cessna

Because you don't have to buy new. I bought a 1974 7ECA for about 100K less than a new Aurora. Mine was rebuilt in 2004, and I'd bet it still cost less than a 1974 7ECA. When I can buy a used 152 for <20K, why would I buy a 160K 162?

There is a *very* small market for 100K+ LSA airplanes. And that market is people with a lot of money and that can't get a medical. The FAA has relaxed some on the medicals removing that as a barrier for many people. But even if you do not have a medical you can buy an experimental LSA for 15-30K all day long. My first LSA I bought for under 10K and it was great.

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Skycatcher demise

I'm currently building one of these.  http://justaircraft.com/index.php?45#gsc.tab=0  It is absolutely the most awesome airplane on the ground I've ever been in and probably the toughest.  A Jeep with wings.  The landing gear and shock system is amazing.  It isn't fast, but I'm not about fast.  If I want to go somewhere fast, I jump on an airliner.  It's an LSA, it can carry a load, I sat in it with a guy almost the size of Richard Williams, and it has a large cargo area for tents and sleeping bags.  I'm putting a Rotax 914 on it because I happened to find a low time used one.  Otherwise I would have gone with a 912S.  I flew it at the factory and they have a 400' strip of which they use about 100' of.  Unfortunately I can't use it commercially as it will be an Exp AB, but it is a fun airplane for landing in rough, short spots.

Pipistrel reaches milestone in aircraft delivery
Pipistrel has reached a milestone for its Sinus/Virus family by completing its 600th aircraft. The company, founded in 1989, will deliver the aircraft to a customer in Australia. "We are proud to announce that our entire yearly production for 2014 has been sold out already, so aircraft number 700 will also be produced this year," company officials said. General Aviation News (2/15)

Like I said earlier Cessna could have done this. They had a clean slate and could have designed any plane they wanted. Instead they screwed it up in every possible. I seriously looked at these because of their fantastic fuel economy but the headroom wasn't there. It would fit plenty of other pilots though. Other than that I was vary impressed.

I'm sure you are correct in what you say. What stopped them from designing and marketing to the larger market? Like I said they screwed it up in just about every possible way.

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Skycatcher demise

You are mixing apples and oranges.  Note, they didn't say that Pipistrel delivered its 600th aircraft in the USA.  According to the FAA database, there are only 20 Pipistrels in the United States, and that surely includes the ones that are in the hands of dealers.

The Cessna was only designed to be sold in the US and meet US certification standards and that is a much smaller market.

RES: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group So much for Cessna

I Agree 100% with you

Here in Brazil the Experimental category is being attacked and killied  by Aviation Agency in Brazil who have no idea on how to hangle the transition.

They simply copy  the FAR and publish it. Right now there are hundreds of employees being fired every week because that decision, without cirteira.

The bigs ones are happy..

Only feel manufacturers are ready fro LSA, but customers also don't understand exactaly why the differece..

It looks like LOST series..

Hey Bob, Nice to 'see' you.
I have to chiime in here - There are many factors that lead to Cessna's decision, (decision to manufacture outside of the USA, manufacturing delays, the spin issue, significantly increased coast, marginal useful load - though typical in the GA world - wing spar AD, and on and on). I think their decision to stop the Skycatcher will be good for the LSA industry.
With only a couple hundred registration for 2013 split between around 100 manufacturers, it's amazing anyone is in business (except that MANY of the people "in business" are just importers and not running a "real" business where there is a support structure, customer interaction after the sale, Continuing Airworthiness and such.
So as attrition of the manufacturers continues, those that have hung in there will have better opportunities to prosper. I am amazed, that after so many years, there are still so many LSA manufacturers - I really thought a shake out would occur earlier on.
LSA will survive (and hopefully prosper) because, for those that can afford to be in the budget range, its the only place to get new hardware and new technology in the panel (that is not the same cost as the airframe), and burn 4-5 gph., and cool looking airplanes. May sound silly, but there is some truth there.
And I'll go further to suggest that the new 4 place aircraft coming out from FD, Tecnam, Pipistrel and others will have a major impact on the existing GA 4 place market for many of the same reasons. The new 'LSA evolved' 4 seaters are coming from manufacturers that know how to build to ASTM standards instead of Part 23 (another reason Cessna had a difficulties in this market.) and the LSA manufacturers understand their market pretty well. A new 172 is about $375,000 base, I believe, but I bet over $400,000 once you get it where you want it, The new 4 seaters are hovering around the $250,000 mark.....
We'll see!
Rome wasn't built in a day, and, these are real exciting times in this area of aviation!

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group So much for Cessna

What I was trying to get across is that you don't need to spend 80-120k on any new airplane. Plenty of used out there. Plenty of experimentals out there. One does not need to buy a new SLSA.

SP vs private?  Sure a private can do more. Sure SP has limits. More training equals more privileges. Many people are happy flying within the limits of SP.
