RE: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Challenge

I started flying in 1967 and it has been recreational flying the entire time.  I would have been happy with being a Sport Pilot during that time if it had been available.  I now fly as a sport pilot with a Legend Cub.  However, I paid $1350 for my first airplane, a "46 Taylorcraft in 1969.

There are a number of good old used certified aircraft that are a bargain and great flyers such as the Taylorcraft, Champ, Cubs and Ercoupes (see list at EAA site.  Remember to check the FAA records to be sure that the aircraft has never been modified to be outside the LSA rules such as a Beech-Roby prop or gross weight increase.  The LSA rules say that the aircraft has to have met the LSA rules since its original certification.  Also, over time used SLSA's will become available.

I think you missed the boat, I brough up an old airplane (Luscomb 8A) that qualify for LSA and cost less than 20K compared to a new LSA that cost like 100K. Luscomb is a two placed airplane and much fun to fly not a MackTruck type like a Cherokee.
