Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: good mic muf

Hi Helen,

There are commercial leather or plastic little "socks" that LightSpeed (and probably others) sell for $3 that go over the foam rubber muff that's usually already on the mike. It is specifically for the purpose of minimizing cockpit noise getting into the mike. It has a tiny hole on ONE side (the side towards your lips. It helps.

Even in a standard cockpit withOUT doors off anything one can do to prevent cockpit noise (which is often quite high ... remember it's so high we're all wearing heavy duty sound muffling covers over our ears) from going into the mike when we PTT would help improve quality of our transmissions.

Here's two ideas I have thought of but have not tried yet:
Cut a pingpong ball in half and mount it over the mike so the open end goes toward your lips. Try the same thing with half of a tennis ball.
If anyone tries this before I do, and reports back would love to hear if it helps.

Even cupping your hand over the mike when transmitting (if both hands aren't occupied flying) can help.

Any other ideas?

Alex
