Why not? We old farts can drive a huge motorhome or anything we can afford to buy with a closing rate of up to 140 miles an hour within inches or feet of one another's vehicle's school busses included, and no one thinks twice about health or age or medicals. Now we do have to limit ourselves to 15 MPH in a school zone but not around a buss full of lots of kids. At least NASCAR is all going the same direction and aircraft are at different altitudes and directions not all on the same highway. There is a far greater risk of a mishap on the ground than there is in the air. On the ground, everyone is on "the same plane" (pun intended) as opposed to in the air.
It would actually be safer to make all old farts fly rather than drive if we really think about it. Wouldn't that be nice? The FAA making us fly when we turn 65 whether we like it or not? I hope I live to see that day! :-)

Interesting poll on AVweb this morning:
Now that Sport Pilots are no longer required, should we do away with the medical cert requirements for ALL pilots flying planes under 6000lbs?

Sure would be easier!
It's been 6 weeks since I took my last exam. Because I had a laryngectomy recently, my case has to go the Headquarters for a decision by the Flight Surgeon. After 3 doctors and piles of paperwork I'm STILL waiting for the results.
fingers crossed,
Rick
