Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group does anyone know if the FAA is considering changing ?

The FAA currently is not considering  any such proposals.   There are several aircraft with 600lbs+ of useful load such as the Remos GX, some of the Tecnams, and the CT SW.  You are likely going to need to find a school with such a plane.

I had gotten a bit excited when I learned about light sport as a less expensive way to become a pilot and I thought maybe I might try to pursue it. then when I started studying it more and learned about weight and balance I learned that I cannot even begin to train for it, because with the aircraft the local flight school is using and a 220 lb flight instructor I have enough useful load left for about 2 gallons of fuel as long as we don't bring any other gear with us.
it is kind of frustrating. I see a lot of kit planes that are designed around a max weith of 1650lbs but when registered as a light sport are limited to 1320lbs. Gaining that extra load would be a big help to the Big guys out here.
I really had wanted to get a light sport rating and build a kit plane because I love the technical side of things as well.

If anyone knows please let me know
thank you
Paul
