The original poster didn't indicate that he was going to do his own annual. He was asking advise on how to prep his plane for the person who was going to do the annual.

Its a "repairman certificate" (not a "mechanics certificate"). Even if the plane is amateur-built, one still needs to hold at least a repairman certificate for that aircraft (or be an A&P to perform the annual condition inspection. Simply being the "original builder" does not qualify someone to perform an annual on an AB aircraft. (Being the "original owner" is the prerequisite, if that person wants to obtain the repairman certificate for that AB). Both E-LSA and E-AB require someone with either an A&P, or a repairman certificate to perform the annual. The process by which one gets the repairman certificate is different, depending on how the plane was certificated.

As an experimental, your operating limits should tell you that the annual condition inspection is to follow the scope & detail of 14 CFR Part 43, Appendix D. So, read that appendix, and you should see the things that should be done. Your op limits should also show you the wording of the endorsement made, upon completion of the inspection.

>What paper work do I need ? I have the AROW, but the plane (AB-ELSA) didn't have a POH or flight manual.

An attentive inspection should include verifying the documents are in order, so yeah, AROW should be on board.

>Do I need a radio station lic. ?

That was back in the "ARROW" days. No, for USA operations, no radio station license needed.

Things you could to do help out, would be to clean the plane/engine, replace oils, filters, spark plugs, crappy fuel lines, if needed.

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group First annual

Fish,

*I* would replace the overlong bolts and anything else that is showing excessive
wear, corrosion, and/or improper installation.

No radio license needed in the U.S.

There is no such designation as AB-ELSA.
Do you mean Experimental Amateur Built (E/AB) that happens to meet the LSA
limits?

The A&P will want to see the airframe, engine, prop logs.

If the engine is not one of the big three (lycoming, continental, franklin) then
just finding a A&P to perform the inspection could be a problem.

Generally, ALL the access panels will need to be opened and the cylinders accessible (usually means removing the upper cowl) so the differential pressure
test on each cylinder can be performed. The upper cowl needs to removed, even
if the cylinders are already accessible, so the firewall forward area can be
inspected.

Items like the transponder, encoding altimeter and ELT paperwork needs to be up-
to-date, or expect a delay and extra charges to inspect/update those items.

If you do not open everything, as described above, then the A&P will charge
extra to open them.

All applicable ADs must be already implemented or the A&P will charge extra to
implement them.

Expect the A&P to perform a OIL/Filter change and perform an inspection of the
old filter. You can save your self some cash by already having performed the
oil/filter change and have the old filter at hand.

Similar expenses can be saved by recently changing the sparkplugs (and any other
life limited items, like the fuel filter), log the maintenance, and have the old
items at hand.

Of course, everything in the cockpit/instrument panel must be fully operational
(or plan on some extra expense as the A&P corrects any faults).

I think that your best move is to first contact the A&P that will perform the
annual inspection. The A&P is the one that will be in the best position to tell
you what they will want.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group First annual

I'm preparing my (new to me) plane for the annual inspection. I'm not sure of what they check and would like to make it a positive, easy adventure.

What do they check?

I have found things on the plane like 4 washers on a bolt instead of the limit of 3. Should I replace the bolts before the inspection?

What paper work do I need ? I have the AROW, but the plane (AB-ELSA) didn't have a POH or flight manual.

Do I need a radio station lic. ?

Thanks for the help,

Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Hand controls

My thoughts exactly. They'll know if there is an STC for it and who
holds it, and if not, what FSDO did the 337 for it so you can get the
records to present to your FSDO. I know I've seen the mod in magazines
about flying for the disabled.

The Weedhopper or similar layout would be about as close to perfect in configuration, the tractor layout would allow the chair to stow behind the pilot. Pulling up and through the wires may not be to difficult for him. Purchase cost of course is going to be a factor, and it's a bit difficult finding someone who is already set up with hand controls for training.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Youth Aviation Adventure Program

This past weekend we held the first Youth Aviation Adventure program
sponsored by Chesapeake Sport Pilot (this is a Nation Program). This
program put 69 Boy Scouts through their aviation merit badge
requirements and was followed by Young Eagle flights. It was made
possible entirely by volunteers from CSP, EAA Chapters 4 and 571, and
other area pilot groups. Everyone had a great time.

Photos from the event are available at: http://tiny.cc/360ds

We had overwhelming interest in this program, so much so we had to turn
many kids away. If anyone on this list would be interested in
organizing such a program at their home field, please drop me a note.
We would like to spread the fun!

Helen

Thanks Mark,

This is the kind of information I was looking for. I knew this group was well rounded and would be a great resource. We're going to be talking to Steve Shoper this July too. He may be able to give us some real pointers as well. He used to fly with the Northern Lights till his accident.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Hand controls

I just wish we could get an Able Flight booth up here at the AFI. Seems so many of the good resources center and attend on the east side and to few make it up here to the Pacific Northwest.

The handbrake levers are located on the right console near the control stick. The controls become very intuitive after just a little training. Some models of wheel chair can be broken down and stored under the back seat. We've had 8 initial students and 1 return to flight pilot use the handcontrols due to spinal cord injury. One is still in training but the rest all earned their SP certificate. One youngman was actually classified as a quadraplegic due to the level of his injury. All were able to enter the aircraft with little or no assistance. Sean O'donnell took his SODA ride and I signed his 8710 so he could take his PP check while he was here visiting us last summer. The Ableflight scholars are a lot of fun and very rewarding to fly with.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Hand controls

Thanks Scott,

I've bookmarked the article, I really don't think he's quiet ready to shell out a stack of greenbacks, Yet. What do you have?

He has no use of his legs so would need something that is only, or can be fitted with hand controls. He also would need to have a configuration to which he could mount or carry his wheelchair (16#) with him. It looks like a trike would most likely be the ticket, but I'm not well versed on the various layouts and/or modifications that can be done with the various models of trikes. But then I know we have some of you who are well versed in this area.

Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Hand controls

If this much money was involved, there's an STC for hand controls in both the C172 and PA-28 that could be looked into. Nice looking little kite though
