Congratulations! A first flight is one a pilot always remembers with fondness!

Well today was my first official flight lesson. It was just as I expected awesome and completely addicting. I have blown several time before with my friend in his 1946 Cessna 140 but this was my first time in the left seat and going through all the check lists etc..
Since it was my fist time we spent a long time on the PreFlight, about
an hour getting to know how to inspect the plane externally and check
the fuel for water and debris. Then on to the inside to go through the
checklist.
The plane is a 2003 Piper Archer III AKA PA28-181 N354MA. The airport
is Phoenix Deer Valley Airpor KDVT
After the PreFlight we called and got approval for taxi and off we
were to runway 7R. We were third behind two Cessna's and a Grumman
Goose. While there we did the run up.
We got approval to take off and she had me do it. I was very excited
for my first takeoff and nervous at the same time not knowing how hard
it was going to be to steer the airplane with my feet. Surprisingly it
was easier for me than the slow taxi to the runway. Liftoff was nice
and easy and we established a rate of climb of about 80kts. Once past
the end of the runway by about 400 feet we turned right till we were
parallel with the runway and over top of the Loop 101 freeway and
stayed over it for quite a while. We went up 4000ft and headed out
toward the NW practice area and flew over the Volvo and Toyota Proving
grounds. Practiced some Climbs,Descents, Heading Changes, Altitude
changes, Pilotage, Clearing Turns, and my favorite a Emergency Decent.
Dump the throttle and push the nose down. We dropped 500ft in a few
seconds. Stomach is now in my throat. :-)
Back to KDVT and lined up for a straight in approach on 7R after the
initial call to the tower and then when we report in 4 mile out
waiting to hear back from them we do a right 360 so we don't enter the
airspace till we get approval and now were changed to 7L. No problem
7L it is and I get my first landing in too with of course Jackie's
hands on the control's too. I did surprise her a bit. because we
floated a bit and as we were settling down we caught a little headwind
that shot us back up about 6ft I guess and so we didn't drop like a
rock I gave it just a little throttle and the landing was smooth. I'm
soo hooked it's not even funny.
I brought my GPS logger with me so I have a good KML file if any of
you want to see it in Google Earth. You can play it back in Google
Earth in real time or sped up and follow along its pretty cool.
http://www.4shared.com/file/xAiAsura/First_Flight.html is the link if you want to check out the flight from Google Earth
I also brought my two little keychain camera's and unfortunately I
only have the PreFlight Taxi and Run-up. I know I have plenty of space
now that I have a 4GB and 8GB SD Card so maybe the little battery will
only go for 30 Min I don't know but I will get it figured out before
the next flight. I'll edit the video I have and put something together
for YouTube soon.
I know its not light sport but I have been lurking in this group for a long time and just wanted to share. I still may end up flying a light sport type aircraft when its all said and done just due to cost who knows.
Cheers,
Chris
