Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Hand controls

The Sky Arrow 600 has a T-handle that puts the throttle and rudder on the left console. It takes about 5 seconds to remove or install it. The handbrake levers are located on the right console near the control stick. The controls become very intuitive after just a little training. Some models of wheel chair can be broken down and stored under the back seat. We've had 8 initial students and 1 return to flight pilot use the handcontrols due to spinal cord injury. One is still in training but the rest all earned their SP certificate. One youngman was actually classified as a quadraplegic due to the level of his injury. All were able to enter the aircraft with little or no assistance. Sean O'donnell took his SODA ride and I signed his 8710 so he could take his PP check while he was here visiting us last summer. The Ableflight scholars are a lot of fun and very rewarding to fly with.

We are also working on hand controls for our FK 9 and hope to have an approved set to demonstrate at Airventure. As someone pointed out, Ableflight and Wheelchair pilots are great resources.
