I guess we just view it differently. Ultralight is NOT going away. ILLEGAL ultralights are going away. BFI instruction that may or may not be adequate is going away. Airplanes with poor or no maintenance are going away. All replaced with Light Sport: regulated and with enough 'teeth' to ensure compliance.
The only folks still whining and crying are the ones who were illegal in the first place and can't stand it that the party's over and they actually have to follow some rules. Rules that (IMHO) are realistic and unobtrusive. No one is forced to go spend 100K on a new LSA. Go fly the same one you had before and it won't cost you a dime. So now you have to go get REAL instruction from a REAL CFI. BIG DEAL! The rest of us have been doing that all along.
Oh yeah, and by the way... come on over to Central Jersey Regional (47N) where the waiting list for hangars is 8 years long. Where you might be number 4 or even 5 in the pattern (all small GA and LSA. no jets. occasionally a small twin - they like our cheap gas). And, where mostly NOBODY ever goes home. We have Friday night dinners on the field, beer (after the flying is done, of course) at a hangar where we can watch other take off and land, or just hang out.
I'm sorry about 39P, but it's problems aren't caused by the Light Sport Rule. I DID mean what I said about coming on over. If you find yourself on the dirty and ugly (that means ME) side, we'd love to have you visit. We've got lots of LSA's and UL's, lots of planes, and lots of activity. Also a few nice folks (but not necessarily me).
