Yeah, I saw several UL's for $2000 back in '99 myself. Seemed like a
BARGAIN!!! until I learned a little more about the vehicles. Lots of
obsolete stuff is still available CHEEP!
But my first actual purchase was a very-used Quicksilver MX with a
serviceable Rotax 337for $3500. The instructor also charged $50 an hour, but
had a made-up organization's fake BFI.
My next purchase was a $8500 MX2 with a Rotax 532 (early version of the
582). Very nice little airplane! The instructor was still $50 an hour BUT he
was an actual BFI from an actual UL Org with a gift for teaching.
I can still buy a used single seat Quick for $3500 and a used MX2 for $8500.
No difference there.
And I can still get local flight instruction in my own airplane for around
$50 an hour. The quality varies, but all have been better than the "fake
BFI" that I first used.
Maybe I'm the perpetual optimist, but my view of the flying world is a lot
brighter than the doom-n-gloom views I sometimes see put forth on these
internet forums.
It's still great to be alive and free in this world :)
