Hi, Malcohm,
Years (decades) ago, I had my own cable TV show. That was 15 minutes once a week program in Flint, Michigan. (I had also briefly been the Executive Director of Educational TV @ Central Michigan College (now a University). Then, I was fired and again, found myself back in the classroom (my true calling). Cable TV came to Flint. And I advised the Flint Executive Counsel - on some things they should get from the company providing cable service. (Which the Cable company was more than willing to agree to.)
I mention this as background - to make a claim: All reality shows are not about reality. Anyone that doesn't understand this has never been behind the scenes. Television is a big business. The Tuttles now make millions more - showing off on TV what they used to do - for a living.
A prominent media pioneer once said: 'The media is the message'. I read it in the paper, heard it on the radio, saw it on TV; so, it must be true.
Bah Humbug. Why do you think TV news anchors (and game show hosts) have make up artist to prep them for their appearances?
Well, you get 'the picture'. (I hope). Don't get me wrong. I enjoy 'Wheel of Fortune, sports and the news - as much as any. But, I get my daily doze of 'print news' every morning. - being aware that, too - is not 100 % unbiased or slanted. Even (especially) political figures, too. Check out my website: www.navalairestates.com. You'll see a couple of letters on there - from a couple of political leaders. (And my comments. It's under reconstruction; so - check it later, too.)
Reality shows have very little reality. They are to make money - by entertaining. And I enjoy them, too. Especially that episode: 'cause, it deals with planes. As do my two websites.
