Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group horizontal component of lift

One can certainly change the aircraft's heading by skidding it around with the rudder even if the wings are kept level.   This is uncomfortable and not the normal way to turn.  The wings provide lift and when you bank the airplane using a combination of aileron and rudder the horizontal component of lift is changed resulting in a change in aircraft heading.
