RE: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group another theft

that's not entirely, true. thieves are arrested, charged, prosecuted and convicted after the fact. the LEOs in my home town recently cleared a ton of burglaries with the arrest of a pair of career criminals. they will be prosecuted and convicted...the case is strong. some of the loot was actually recovered and identified making it that much easier. burglar alarms can be monitored at a central station where upon activation the operator will make notification to whomever you want...police, friends, the airport manager, you, etc. and in some jurisdictions premise alarms can be monitored at the police station or central dispatch center. my comm center had nearly 4000-alarms...burglar, hold-up, fire...connected directly to us. that cut down on the response time.
btw...video surveillance footage is not automatically excluded from court.

You may note that the laws all favor the thief.
I.E. you cannot detain the thief
you cannot harm the thief
you cannot punish the thief.
etc

And the thief will treat the jail as an overnight, fully luxurious
accommodation, with supplied meals, warm place to sleep, etc.
Then out in the morning with no more than a warning/slap on the hand.

the thief might accidentally hurt themselves, while in your hanger, through no
fault of your actions.
For instance, if you are a trapper and have a few open leg traps (which sadly
are no long legal to use) but you might have some laying around the hanger as
antiques.

Another suggestion is using the services of something like ADT, costs
~50usd/month plus initial installation. Even then, what are you to do when the
alarm goes off?

Note: a thief is typically in and out in less than 4 minutes, so all remedies
must happen during that time span.
This means you cannot expect any help from the police, etc.
And the police/court will throw out video evidence because the police did not
personally see the thief in action.
