Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Story from EAA's E-Hotline

If given equal choices, one US made and one foreign made, I would try to buy US made.

But, in general, I will buy the best product for my needs.

If everyone bought US cars, regardless of quality, we'd still be driving Pintos and Vegas and Gremlins. It was only the quality of the foreign brands that forced US manufacturers to improve reliability and efficiency.

Even when you DO find a product made by a US company, many components are often sourced outside the US. My Buell motorcycle has an Italian frame and brakes, Japanese shocks and many other parts that do NOT say "Made in U.S.A." on them.

My choice of LSA was a 3i Sky Arrow - an Italian model. It had the best combination of features, build quality and price when I was looking about 3 years ago - it would likely still be my choice today (even though 3i is struggling). Still, it has many US parts on it, as well as parts from a variety of different countries - all ROTAX's are Austrian, regardless of who assembles the plane.

Like it or not, it is a global marketplace, and overall the competition is good for everyone.
