Yes Bill... and how tight do you want to make it?
which also means,
"how slow do you want to fly through the turn?"

Imagine you were doing 60 knots on downwind....
do you want to slow down during your turn?

Mike
I guess it depends on what I'm flying. If I am at 60 knots on downwind, yes I want to slow down quite a bit as I descend and turn *while flying my Quicksilver. If I am at 60 knots while flying a Saratoga downwind, I'd best be starting stall recovery procedures and maybe delay the turn till I'm done. The tower seems to be happier when I keep my bank angles mild, so I do use the elevator to increase my turn rate as needed. As far as slowing down, elevator/rudder/ailerons all consume energy and thus slow me down (or reduce my kinetic energy) by acting upon my object in motion.
