As for myself, I have local backups, and then I have backups of the local backups into "the cloud". So even if my laptop were to take a digger (which it has on occasion), it's a simple restore and I'm back in business.

But you do bring up a great point though. What happens if you sign up for an online log company and the company is bought, sold or closed - then what of the logs? Hopefully you'll be able to capture that information in a csv file or something that's transportable to another location.

I also had totally forgotten about the CFI sigs. That brings up a new point on something the FAA should be looking into (or someone in authority along those lines). At some point in time we'll need to have some sort of secure digital signature file for these online log books.
