Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group New topic, what are we?

All three should all be friends and even include Model aircraft and rocket builders. We all enjoy the experience of flight even through the model builders eyes and how they do it I don't know but they are aviators in their own sense. Many of which become great aviators - Burt Rutan began as a model builder in Dinuba, CA. Look where he has taken us or is it brought us?

Notwithstanding the differences in the planes we all prefer as Helen noted, there are also as many differences in flying. I love boonie and bush flying, I'm not crazy about technical flying or big city stuff with tons of traffic but I know lots of people who love it. I love camping under the wing as opposed to the Holiday Inn thing. Others don't. Someone should do a poll to find all the differences and commonalities we all share. The one thing in common seems to be the 3D freedom of flight whether it be a model, a powered parachute, a trike, a UL, an LSA and on and up.

Oddly enough I find the aviator type also has other hobbies in common. Many like myself like sailing, motorcycles, bicycles maybe it's the wind and the air that I like . . .

Now there it is. Getting back to basics and what people come here to find
out. Thanks bill, we do have to stay with the rules as they are, or help
change them (not the purpose of this group). Learning what LSA is and what
the rules are and the craft available and personal flight reports, etc.
that's what we need here in my opinion.

Bill has been here since the beginning and start of LSA, a pioneer, and has
a mountain of info on his site that is well worth looking at:part103.org.
Bill is a BFI as well. It was the FAA that wanted to get rid of the Heavy UL
plight, as recorded by the EAA several times, that started the process now
known as LSA movement. Another site for good info is Bob Comperini's site:
www Fly-ul,com. Again, gobs of info there. Bob is a SPDPE and Rotax mechanic
to boot. Interesting.

EAA has a site about LSA here: www sportpilot.org. About the only place they
have for our sport. Hit home page and your gone.

Another something to think about is the effort to try to get GA to accept
LSA as general aircraft partners. I don't think that will ever be possible.
That is like trying to make a UL a GA aircraft. No, I think we are stuck
with the three main groups staying what they are. It is sad it can't be all
one family but no one seems to want that to happen, at least from what I
have seen. As I see there is 3 basic groups
1- UL, 254lbs empty, 5 gals or less, single seat part 103. no exceptions
2- LSA Less than 1320 lbs gross, recip engine, one pilot one passenger only,
less than 120 knots speed. Some exemptions
3- GA up to 12,500 lbs, any engine, any speed with training, any part 23,
more than one engine with endorsement, etc. Gobs of exceptions.

What do you think? Will the three ever be accepted as one entity....flyers
and pilots?
