Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: LSA Experimental

My underdstanding on this is that S-LSA is a factory built aircraft. If you want a kit you get the E-LSA, but it MUST be built exactly as the kit designers intended, no alterations or substitutions, to be able to qualify under E-LSA. If you get the E-LSA kit and build it with deviations or substitutions, then it must be registered as an E-AB. E-AB can be kits or plans built. My understanding here is that if the major portion of the work (51% rule)is done by the builder then you can get your repairmans cert. I may be a bit off on that. The alternative to that is the A/C may have to be registered as Experimental Exibition, or Exper. Proof of Concept. I've seen a re-engined Cessna listed as E-POC.

I taslked to the local FSDO last February about building a plans built which the designer listed as having a 1450# gross. I wanted to know if it could be certified at 1320. I was told as long as I was the builder that was acceptable. Even though the design was for another 150# all up weight I could certify it at the lower weight and just must abide by that limitation.
