I have never paid that much attention to it but it seemed like I had to go through several replies to get to the question. You may be right and it is just my computer dumbness slipping in.  I still prefer to see the reply on the top line.

It's even better when you read what's being replied to right before the
reply, just as it would be in normal coversation. People don't talk like
Jeopardy; why should they write like it?
