I agree Bob. Same pattern for all is the safest way to go. At towered airports it seems to be less an issue but it is doing the same things that helps keep us safer in the long run.

With my high wing aircraft, my "blind spot" is an issue longer, with one long 180 degree turn, as opposed to two 90's, with a period of "wings level" between the turns.

So does two gentle 90 degree turns.

The author goes on to say:

Seems to me, the "steep bank" (and low and slow) is the problem. If one needs to make "steep banks", perhaps their pattern is just too tight, or the pilot isn't starting the turn early enough to avoid having to make a steep turn.
