If I were you I would go to an AME and tell him/her you want a "pre-medical". This is where the complete exam is performed w/o the paper work. It is fine with the FAA. They don't have a problem with it. If you fail all you are out is the cost of the exam. If you pass you can come back the next day for the real one and then you are good to go. As far as having to study more is concerned, you are NEVER finished learning to fly. I have friends who have alphabet soup after their name (ATP,CFI, CFII and on and on) and they are learning every day. I have been flying for 12 years and still consider myself a "greenhorn".
