Rick,

IN Great Brittian there is a proposal that all flying machines, within BCD airspace must have a transponder. 
The proposal is hotly contested for several reasons including there are no transponders that can be carried on things like hanggliders and run off a 9 volt battery.

My best chance of making sport pilot is to find an instructor that will train in my trike (which does not have dual controls), as I would like more/refresher training on all the PTS maneuvers.
Then find an instructor that will give the flight portion of the test in my trike.

I have spoken with several CFIs, such as Paul Hamilton at Carson City NV about taking the test. 
Universally, so far, they have all required performing the test in a dual control trike, preferably their own trike (as if they do not trust me to fly my trike safely), even with the recommendation of another CFI indicating that I do know what I'm doing in a trike and have been trained on all the requirements.
I have gotten some dual time in my trike with Samantha Moore; That got interrupted when a head gasket on my trike engine blew.

As it is, I have 20+hrs of dual training in a trike with 3 different instructors.  Landing in their trike(s) is always a problem because of landing on the front wheel, unless landing with a significant amount of power applied.
I have 30-40 front wheel landings.  They are super scarry.  It is only with the greatest of care that none of those landings have balled up a trike.  Even so, some have swerved us right off the runway, but no tip overs.

That makes soft field, short field, dead stick, cross wind landings all items that I had to learn on my own.
Fortunately, several bits of surgery on my own trike made a trike that lands correctly with me in the front seat. 
If it weren't for the posted front seat weight limits, I think most trikes could accommodate me with nothing more than a shorter front strut.  Though many trikes are very limited in the front seat area, making it a real squeeze for me to get into/sit in/get out of.
