Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group ELSA vs LSA

I have a friend with a challenger 2.

Right now, it is a ELSA.

Here is the question<s>:

If I am correct, you must reregister it before Jan 30, 2010 in order to be able to train with it. If you don't, you cannot use it as a trainer, is this correct?

If it is switched to a LSA, is my friend able to do his own annuals with the propeer 16 hour course they have? Or, Does he have to still take it to an A/P tech?

Or, since it is a ELSA now, can he take the maintenance course and do the annuals himself?
