Welcome to the World Wide Web though you are a decade late :). But honestly this is now the social media decade now and the short form is a fact of life and expected to be understood if one will participate on the web discussions and forums.
On the web a quick search will get you the "published" meanings you are looking for just like in any publication or book, a look elsewhere will get you to a page where such things are defined.
The first thing you should (or anyone else in the same situation) should do is to look at
http://www.netlingo.com/acronyms.php
Hey at least you have to just deal with English. I am fluent in 3 languages and so so in a 4th. Just imagine how many of these I have to know to talk to all the people I talk to on the web :).
Best of luck.
