The only difference is the number of hours and no IFR or night training plus shorter cross countries.. Other then that they are both the same. The one problem is when PPL's transition they try to fly them like they are 172's and not a 1320 lb aircraft.

I have not seen anything that says the accident rate for LSA's is twice as high as GA. If that was the case there no insurance company would write policies for them. I have read that a lot of the increase in accident rates for LSA's is being caused by PPL pilots transitioning to LSA.

Our Apollo LSA commercial insurance allowing student solos is around $4750.00 which is about the same that Jensen Aviation next door to us pays for his 172 usage.
