Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: hanger break-in

You may want to check with a DAR for reporting of the engine as stolen as they are now checking new completed planes for engine serial numbers due to the increase in engine theft.


Regrettably this sort of thing, whilst not common, isn't unheard of here in UK and Europe. The commonly held belief is that the equipment is stolen to order for East European customers. There is a facility to register the engine serial number as stolen on the Rotax website. I have dealt with maybe six or so such thefts here in UK over the years none of the engines have reappeared to date.

I would suggest monitoring ebay for the next few months to see if the stolen gear pops up. You can set up alerts to have ebay mail you if a match hits the market. Might want to watch barnstormers as well.
